The Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP) at the Panjab University organised a one hour long play performance at evening auditorium. The play was an adaptation from Dr. Ambedkar’s autobiographical text “Waiting for a Visa’. It was directed by a young theatre artist Vinod Bharti who is also an alumnus of the Department of Theatre at Panjab University. Dr D Suresh (IAS Haryana cadre) was the chief guest for the program along with another alumnus of Panjab University Prof Parmod Kumar Mehra, Professor at Indira Gandhi National Open University. Registrar Panjab University Prof YP Verma graced the program as a guest of hour. Congratulating Vinod Bharti and his team, D Suresh said that young artists should make films on socially relevant issues such as caste. He further added that caste and reservation are mutually interactive. Either they both stay or they both go. D Suresh also said that education can be instrumental towards annihilation of caste which Dr. Ambedkar dreamt. The play was houseful and was largely attended by Panjab University teachers and scholars and a team of teachers from Government College Kalka visited Panjab University for the play.
Director of CSSEIP Prof Ashok Kumar along with Prof Pramod and Prof. Verma also congratulated the team of artist and Vinod Bharti for their flawless performance. The play was organised and funded by Panjab University teachers themselves. Dr Neeraj Aggarwal and Dr Anish Kumar from UIHTM, Dr Kulwinder Singh from UBS and Dr Sudhir Mehra from the Department of English and Cultural Studies worked as an organising team to make the play possible.
