Railways (142) fight back, reduced UT boys to 87/7 on the opening day of Ranji trophy match

Chandigarh, UT boys failed to take the initial advantage after derailing Railways for mere 142 (all out) and found themselves at back foot with 87/7 on the first day of the ongoing Ranji match being played at GMSSS, Sector 26 on Friday. Earlier, host won the toss and opted to field first.Visitors failed to read the pace of UT lads and collapsed his top order -Shivam Chaudhary (3), Captain Pratham Singh (2), Vivek Singh (28), Mohammad Saif (11) and Ashutosh Sharma (5) leaving the half side at 58. A little patientful partnership of 23 runs between Karn Sharma and Upendra Yadav halted the havoc. With the end of the patience of Upender Yadav (11 runs off 36 balls), Railways was reduced to 81/6.  Team lost its seventh wicket in the form of Karn Sharma (16) at the team score of 108. Vishu (3/21) took his third wicket by dismissing Akash Pandey (1). Vishu, again found Himanshu Sangwan (0) short of his crease. Top scorer Yuvraj (55) was later consumed by Nishunk Birla (3/40) as his third victim as the team collapsed at 142 runs in the 50th over.

Hosts also led to a dismal start when Himanshu Sangwan sent back Arsalan Khan (1) and Shivam Bhambri (0) in the same over with 9/2 on the board. Thereafter, the very first spell from Akash Pandey produced magic for Railways when he accounted for  Gaurav Puri (9), Manan Vohra (18) and Ankit Kaushik (14) cheaply and reduced the opponent to 44/5.  Later, Arjit Singh (5) and Jagjit Singh Sandhu (16) failed to deliver with 80/7. With unbeaten Raj Angad Bawa (22) Chandigarh ended the first day at 87/7. Chandigarh is still trailing by 55 runs.
