PRCI celebrates World Radio Day by honoring Radio personalities of city

The Chandigarh Chapter of Public Relations Council of India celebrated World Radio Day, here today on the theme ‘Radio and Peace’with focus on the rol of Radio as an independent medium of peace making.

Mr Sanjiv Dosajh, Head of Programme and Asstt Director,All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra Chandigarh and Jammu, in his address shared that Radio is a theatre of mind. While educating , informing and entertaining , it makes bonds with individuals by touching their emotions and facilitates in change of opinions. AIR still enjoys maximum reach and has transformed into a multimedia platform for reaching out to the masses, he added.
He talked about the newsroom challenges and also how during calamities, conflicts Radio has been a messenger of peace.

Mr Hardeep Chandpuri, a stalwart broadcaster, publisher and editor shared his experiences abroad and how initiative of creating first academy for training of RJ’s was undertaken in the city.
Mr Sarvpriya Nirmohi, a seasoned broadcaster of 3 decades of AIR, shared that Radio connects with each listener and gives soltion. A good Content is the need of an hour which helps in enhancing your vocabulary.

Mr Ojaswwee Sharma, Rajat Kamal National Awardee for his film Admitted shared that his next film is about a RJ. Radio is a trustworthy medium. Recently, it has emerged as a strong advertising medium.

Earlier, PRCI Chairman Dr. Rupesh Singh in his welcome address emphasized that in the digital age, no matter how close we grow with technology, the bond with radio can never be forgotten. He informed that UNESCO has taken initiative to establish mutual love, peace and harmony through radio at global level and PRCI has tried to bring people closer towards radio through this initiative here in the city.

Mr Charanjit Singh, Sr Vice President,PRCI and MD, Core PR said that on World Radio Day 2023, UNESCO highlights independent radio as a pillar for conflict prevention and peacebuilding.It is not radio flash reporting that contributes to conflict prevention and peacebuilding but radio professionals’ accountability to citizens, fact-checking, accuracy, balanced reporting and journalistic investigation behind each broadcast news and programmes, he added.

Renuka B Salwan ,Vice President North PRCI and former Director Public Relations PU gave an overview of PRCI and its Young Communicators Club where it provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge for professionals, educationists, researchers and students and prepares the youth to be industry ready. Radio, she said is a communication medium which connects through Words and Voice. Radio accompanies you wherever you go.

RJ Amar from 92.7Big FM, a radio partner of the event shared about the transition of radio to various FM’s catering to different age groups.

PRCI fecilitated stalwart broadcasters during the programme which included Mr Sarvpriya Nirmohi, Mr Hardeep Chandpuri, Dr Sanjiv Dosajh and Mr Amarjit Narang. A citation and a planter was presented during the event. Amarjit Narang couldn’t make it and will be presented the same at his residence.

At the end of the program, PRCI Secretary Sudeep Rawat expressed his gratitude to the people who came and called upon them to connect more with the radio.
