Adviser Addressed the Issue of Inter State Smuggling

Chandigarh, 15th July 2020: A meeting under the Chairmanship of Sh. Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh was held on today regarding the issue of inter-state smuggling of liquor.
The issues related to interstate smuggling of liquor in two States and U.T. Chandigarh and Excuse Duty Structure of Punjab, Haryana and UT, Chandigarh were discussed today.
It was decided that a close coordination and sharing of information among the two States and U.T. Chandigarh would help in curbing interstate smuggling. The Adviser directed that Strict Enforcement activities be carried out by the Excise & Taxation Departments of two States and Chandigarh in coordination with Police. He further suggested that use of Technology such as Bar Coding etc. may be explored to strengthen enforcement measures.
