Launch of E-International Public Health Management Development Program during IAPSMCON 2021 at PGIMER Chandigarh

The curtain raiser launch of e-International Public Health Management Development Program was done during the 48th Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine national conference on 14th March 2021 by Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh amongst 200 participants from all states of India and 50+ faculties of course.

The curtain raiser workshop aimed at providing knowledge to public health professionals about skills and competencies in management and leadership. While appreciating the endeavor to start management and leadership program in near future, Dr Amarjeet Singh, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health and Chairperson-IAPSMCON2021 told the audience about the felt need of such programs for academicians and program managers.

Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director and Co-organizing Secretary of IAPSMCON 2021 provided a brief overview of 3-month course ‘eIPHMDP-Basic’ which will be launched on Learning Management Portal namely e-Learning for Public Health from third week of May 2021. He provided the glimpse of the journey of IPHMDP which was conceptualized in the year 2016 and had trained over 500 participants from 70 countries and almost all states of India in collaboration with Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India under their flagship Indian Technical Economic Cooperation program. The 3 months eIPHMDP basic course is based upon the concept of “Learning with Fun” which will have mixed learning methodology comprising of presentations, case studies, contextual videos and team building exercises, assignments and energisers. They will also be working with a renowned faculty for their practical work towards end of the course.

The technical sessions of the current curtain raiser workshop started with a session on Introduction to public Health Management by Dr. Preethi John, Dean, Chitkara School of Health Sciences, followed by sessions on PHM education in the globe and India by Dr. Sanjay Zodpey, Vice president- Academics, PHFI, New Delhi. This was followed by the lectures of Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Ex-Director IIHMR New Delhi, and Mr. Vivek Atray, EX- IAS and Motivational Speaker on Leadership in public health. The last set of lecture were on communication and advocacy by Dr. Rajni Bagga, Head of Department, Management Sciences, NIHFW, New Delhi on Principles of Effective communication and Dr. O P Kansal, Senior Manager, Global Health, Becton Dickson. Along with that, a couple of case studies on the importance of management and leadership in public health were given to the participants. The event ended with a Post-test and live interaction with experts in the subject of Public Health from across country.
