Bharatiya Janata Party protested strongly under the leadership of state president Arun Sood against the attack on freedom of media and the arrest of the chief editor of a media house by Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena-Congress-Nationalist Congress Party government led by Uddhav Thackray. Party workers raised slogans against Uddhav Thackeray and the Maharashtra government and burnt effigy of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

Addressing the protest, Arun Sood said that this blasphemous act done by the Government of Maharashtra is highly condemnable. He said that the incident brought back memories of the dark phase of the Emergency. He said that the protest of the Bharatiya Janata Party is not for any individual or a journalist but for the protection of democracy and we will always be ready to protect democracy.

Party General Secretary Ramvir Bhatti termed the Maharashtra government’s move as shameful and called it a blow to democracy. He said that newspapers and electronic media play a very important role in democracy and strongly condemned the malicious action taken by the Uddhav Thackeray government of Maharashtra on freedom of media.

Prominent party activists who were present include Asha Jaswal, Nina Tiwari, Jaswinder Kaur, Amit Rana, Tajinder Singh, Anup Gupta, Hukam Chand, Ravi Kant Sharma, Jagtar Singh Jagga, Shakti Prakash Devshali, Anil Dubey, Chandravati Shukla, Bharat Kumar, Gurpreet Dhillon, Vinod Aggarwal , A large number of party workers, including Vijay Rana, Krishna Kumar, Didar Singh, Ravinder Pathania, Rajinder Sharma, Manish Bhasin, Naresh Panchal among others.
