Hyundai Foundation inaugurated 5 new Telemedicine Centres in Ladakh, J&K

Leh, November 8: Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) on Friday inaugurated 5 new Telemedicine Centres under its Sparsh Sanjeevani healthcare initiative at high-altitude regions of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir. The 4 Telemedicine Centres were inaugurated at Kargil, Drass, Leh and Kharu in Ladakh and one centre was inaugurated at Bhalla in J&K.

The newly launched centres will provide vital healthcare services, enhancing the connection between healthcare providers and underserved communities in rural and remote areas across Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.

With the addition of the new Telemedicine Centres, residents of some of India’s most challenging terrains will now have easier access to essential healthcare, effectively bringing quality medical consultations to remote, mountainous regions. HMIF’s flagship healthcare initiative – Sparsh Sanjeevani, now boasts a large network of 52 Telemedicine Centres throughout India, reaching over 1.5 million people from rural communities.

Puneet Anand, Vertical Head – Corporate Communication & Social, HMIL, said, “Access to quality healthcare is essential for the well-being and progress of every community. Through HMIF’s Sparsh Sanjeevani program, we are committed to Hyundai’s global vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ working to reach communities in remote regions with primary healthcare services. By expanding into Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir, these new Telemedicine Centres will ensure essential health consultations to populations residing in some of the country’s most rugged landscapes.”

Tundup Nurbu, Hon’ble Councillor, Phyang Constituency, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Council, Leh, in recognition of this next phase of the Sparsh Sanjeevani project, expressed his admiration for the effort, stating, “I applaud Hyundai Motor India Foundation for their unwavering commitment to improving healthcare accessibility in our country’s most remote locations. These Telemedicine Centres represent a meaningful step towards addressing the healthcare needs of people in rural and mountainous areas, bringing medical services closer to those who might otherwise face significant challenges. This initiative holds great promise for improving health and quality of life across the region of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir.”

About Sparsh Sanjeevani Telemedicine Centres:

Hyundai Motor India Foundation’s Sparsh Sanjeevani public healthcare initiative was envisaged to boost India’s healthcare services in remote villages, by reaching the hinterland and making primary healthcare accessible to the underserved communities. Telemedicine Centres are nurse assisted healthcare facilities where patients are connected through video call with specialist doctors, providing professional consultation in remote areas. Post consultation, each patient is provided with medicines by the on-ground health practitioners. This service is provided at a nominal charge of Rs. 100 per patient. The model also allows follow-up consultations.
