Chandigarh, October 4 – In view of the upcoming general elections for the Haryana Assembly on October 5, 2024, Haryana Police has made stringent security arrangements across the state. To ensure that the assembly elections are conducted freely, fairly, and peacefully, 29,462 police personnel, 21,196 home guard personnel, and 10,403 SPOs have been deployed. During the polling process, the police will keep a strict watch on every nook and corner of the state so that people can exercise their voting rights fearlessly.

Sharing information about this, Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur stated that maintaining law and order during the election is their top priority to ensure that people can vote impartially without any fear. He said that officers and police personnel at every level have been clearly instructed on how to act in potential situations. The instructions issued by the State Election Commission will be strictly followed.

Sufficient police force, and strong security arrangements: The DGP mentioned that for the assembly elections, 29,462 Haryana police personnel, 225 companies of paramilitary forces, over 21,000 home guard personnel, and over 10,000 SPOs have been deployed. To maintain law and order, 191 intra-state and 201 inter-state checkpoints have been set up within the state. For voting, a total of 20,629 polling stations have been established at 10,495 locations across the state. Additionally, 3,616 polling stations have been classified as sensitive, and 145 polling stations as vulnerable, where extra police force will be deployed. Moreover, 516 flying squads, 469 static surveillance teams, and 32 quick response teams have been formed. To ensure law and order and adherence to the Model Code of Conduct, 1,156 patrolling parties have been deployed, patrolling day and night.

Sealing plan in place, monitoring of hotels, etc.: The DGP further explained that to maintain peace and law and order during the polling process, a sealing plan has been implemented at the intra-state and inter-state borders and within districts. Haryana Police is conducting checks around hotels, inns, guest houses, and other areas across the state, keeping a close watch on those staying there. Similarly, hostels of educational institutions, colleges, and universities are also being monitored.

History-sheeters and troublemakers under police radar: Moreover, the movement of alcohol, weapons, cash, and other materials that could influence the election is prohibited. History sheeters, troublemakers, and anti-social elements are being monitored. Additionally, those trying to bribe voters with liquor or cash, along with liquor vendors, are under strict surveillance. Immediate action will be taken on complaints regarding these matters. Police teams across the state are conducting patrols day and night.

Monitoring of fake videos and quick action: The DGP also said that sometimes troublemakers circulate fake videos of polling stations on social media, which disrupts law and order. Haryana Police teams will monitor such activities on social media at different levels and will act swiftly against those sharing fake videos. The DGP also appealed to the public not to share such videos on their social media accounts. If anyone sees such a video, they are advised to inform Haryana Police’s helpline number – 112.

From August 16 to October 4, during the Model Code of Conduct period, narcotics, cash, liquor, and valuable metals worth approximately ₹72 crores were seized, out of which around ₹51 crores worth of narcotics, cash, liquor, and valuable metals were seized by Haryana Police. Haryana Police also seized over ₹22 crores in cash, 321,884 litres of liquor worth over ₹12 crores, and 3,149 kilograms of narcotics with an estimated value of ₹9.23 crores.

So far, 54 licensed weapons have been seized due to violations of the Model Code of Conduct, and 1,080 weapon licenses have been cancelled.

People should vote fearlessly: The DGP said that October 5 is a grand festival of democracy, and it is our collective responsibility to exercise our voting rights and go to the nearest polling station to vote. In a democratic system, voting holds great importance, so on October 5, people should vote and play an important role in determining the future of the country. People should vote fearlessly and contribute to strengthening the democratic system.
