PGI Celebrates Breastfeeding Week with Fathers, Mothers and Anganwadi Workers
On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week (1st – 7th August), Department of Community Medicine and School of Public Health,along with Department of Social Welfare, Poshan Abhiyaan, Suposhan, Nutrition Society of India Chandigarh Chapter, NetProFaN and Eat Right India,organized E Goshthi and Breastfeeding awareness activities in hybrid modefocussing on the theme “Step up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support.
An E-Goshthi was livestreamed on 1st August on the theme “Breastfeeding: Educate and Support” by the subject expert Dr Shilpy Srivastava, DNB Obstetrics and Gynaecology,for educating mothers on Importance of breastfeeding, correct latching postures, reasons for insufficient breastfeed and its remedies.
For community awareness regarding breastfeeding an event was organized on 4th August in Anganwadi centre 10, Bapudham Colony, Chandigarh. The event was inaugurated by Mrs Parminder Kaur Deputy Director, ICDS, Chandigarhwho addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of breastfeeding for mothers and babies and role of anganwadi workers in establishing correct breastfeeding practices.
Briefing about the Objectives of the Breastfeeding week, Dr Poonam Khanna (Associate Professor, DCM & SPH, PGIMER, CHD) stressed on role of fathers in supporting breastfeeding. She emphasized the contribution and support of fathers in maintaining a peaceful environment at home so that mothers can successfully breastfeed their babies.
Supporting the theme of this breastfeeding week 2022, a Nukkad Natak was performed by members of Rudra Theatre on the importance of breastfeeding week celebration and how it will contribute towards improving the health status of children.
The event was organised under the supervision of Dr Poonam Khanna (Associate Professor, DCM & SPH, PGIMER, CHD) by Dr Rachana Srivastava,Mrs. Deepshikha Thakur and Mr. Savitesh Kushwaha
