Chandigarh, 2 nd November :67204 children were immunized during Sub National Immunization (SNID) Polio round for 1st and 2nd November 2020.

Keeping in mind the existing COVID pandemic and as a commitment for this National cause. The health department ensured that all Health workers are being provided with appropriate safety/protective gears with strict adherence to GOI protocols. Sensitization trainings of the team members were also conducted prior to the SNID round with special emphasis on precautions to be taken in the field as well as the vaccination procedure to be followed.

SNID is a house to house activity wherein the teams visit the houses in the vulnerable/ high risk areas only to administer Polio drops to the 0-5 year old children. Approx 85 supervisors monitored the SNID activity for which 586 teams (consisting of 2 members in a team) of vaccinators are deployed for house to house visits.

Utilizing this visit of the ANMs to the households, Health Department, UT Chandigarh has distributed pamphlets carrying the information about all the precautions and measures to be taken during festival season to decrease the spread of COVID 19 infection with special focus to control the spread of Dengue and Malaria.

“TAARE ZAMEEN PAR-A NIGHT VIGIL”, an innovative activity which earned a National Award kept up to its name by reaching out to the children who are left out from vaccination during the day time due to the mobility of their parents. The activity targets the children of rag pickers, nomads, beggars, jhuggis at traffic signals, railway stations, bus stands etc. so that they are not deprived from this National initiative. To execute this activity, teams were constituted comprising of Male and Female Medical Officers, Male health functionaries and Police Personnel. This activity was carried out with support and cooperation of Police Department. The Director health services praised the dedicated hardwork done by the ANMs, MPHWs and interns at the ground level by going from house to house, she extended special thanks to them for discussing precautions regarding covid 19 during festival season

Approximate 103 no of children had been immunized in the night hours during this activity in different parts of the city on 1st November, 2020.
Stringent monitoring & supervision was done at various levels by the internal supervisors & external monitors to make this a success.
