Punjab Raj Bhavan Celebrates  Sikkim Day

Chandigarh,16th,May,2024. The scenic landscapes and vibrant culture of Sikkim found a splendid showcase at the Punjab Raj Bhawan as the Sikkim Foundation Day was celebrated with great fervor and enthusiasm. The occasion marks the historic day when Sikkim, nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, joined the Indian union as its 22nd state in 1975.

The event served as a platform to strengthen the bonds between the people of Sikkim and Punjab/Chandigarh, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of each other’s traditions and customs. It underscored the unity amidst diversity that is the hallmark of India’s cultural landscape.

Speaking at the event, Governor of Punjab and  Administrator  UT Chandigarh Shri Banwari Lal Purohit emphasizing the importance of celebrating diversity and fostering cultural exchanges between different states of India.The Governor
emphasized Sikkim’s profound beauty, characterized by its majestic mountains, serene rivers, and lush forests. Described as the “Switzerland of the East,” Sikkim’s allure transcends borders, captivating travelers from far and wide.

Shri Purohit said that through ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, mutual familiarization among the people of the states, spirit of unity, diverse traditions, art, culture, costumes and foods are also exchanged. He said that every state has a unique identity, and the unity in diversity of states is the strength of India. Despite this diversity, we are all one which is the specialty of India.

Further the Governor said that Sikkim’s pioneering initiatives in environmental conservation and sustainability are commendable. As the first organic state in the country with the lowest carbon footprint, Sikkim sets a remarkable example for environmental stewardship and responsible tourism.

Through music, dance, and tradition, Sikkim’s rich cultural tapestry is showcased, by Students from various Govt.schools of Chandigarh .

Dignitaries present at the event included Sh. Rajeev Verma,  Adviser to the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh, Sh.K. Siva Prasad,  Additional Chief Secretary to Hon’ble Governor of Punjab,Sh.Nitin Kumar Yadav,Home Secretary, U.T.Chandigarh, and other officers of the Chandigarh Administration.
