Chandigarh, August 5, 2023 – The Readers Club of GGDSD College Chandigarh, renowned for its commitment to fostering intellectual discourse and innovation, convened a momentous workshop titled “Future of Innovation and Research: Impact of Information Technology on Academic Spheres.” The workshop, held in anticipation of Shri S. R. Ranganathan National Librarians’ Day, took place today at the college, drawing a distinguished audience of eager students, esteemed faculty members, and experts from the realm of Library Sciences. The event stood as a pinnacle of intellectual contemplation, designed to explore the dynamic landscape of research with innovation in information technology. With a keen focus on the transformative influence IT wields across academic disciplines, the workshop delved into the profound metamorphosis underway in teaching, learning, and research techniques.

Dr Ajay Sharma, the esteemed Principal of GGDSD College, graced the occasion with his eminent presence, illuminating the connection between technological progress and academic paradigms. Dr Sharma eloquently described the transformative synergy that is reshaping academia, stating, “The convergence of technology and education heralds a new epoch in human learning,” encapsulating the essence of the ongoing transformation.

Dr Gurpreet Singh, the Head Librarian of the institution and convenor of the Readers Club, shared his reflections on the evolving role of information and digital technology in the academic sphere. Complementing these luminaries were esteemed experts, including Dr. D. P. Tripathi, Deputy Librarian from NIT, Jalandhar; Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh, Deputy Librarian, A. C. Joshi Library, Panjab University, Chandigarh; and Dr. Nirmal Singh, University Librarian, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Their incisive discourses resonated deeply with the engaged audience.

Dr. Tripathi shared brilliant insights on “Digital and AI Tools for Research,” highlighting the boon that Artificial Intelligence-enabled research tools present for scholars engaged in summarization, outlining, literature review, and data analysis. He cautioned against excessive reliance on these tools, advocating for a balanced approach. Dr. Neeraj Kumar Singh led a session on “Research Data Management and its Significance in the Scholarly Community.” His interactive discussion emphasized the vital role of effective data management in underpinning groundbreaking discoveries and scholarly advancement. He advocated for robust data management practices to empower future generations of researchers and foster a culture of transparency and collaboration. Dr. Nirmal Singh’s session, “3D Printing, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality for Research,” explored the transformative potential of recent developments in VR/AR and 3D printing. He illuminated the possibilities these technologies offer for innovative research, bridging the gap between real-world data and digital overlays, and even translating imagination into tangible reality.

The workshop unfolded as a captivating panorama of ideas, sparking conversations that transcended conventional boundaries. A symphony of presentations, interactive panels, and tangible demonstrations showcased the tangible manifestations of Information Technology in academia.
