HANDS OVER PRIZES TO WINNERS OF U-15 BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIP
CHANDIGARH, JUNE 11: Underlining the value of discipline, hard work and resilience in life, UT Adviser Dharam Pal on Sunday exhorted young sports persons to imbibe these values and become a role model for society and nation.
To be a Sportsperson is a matter of great respect as everyone looks up to you for motivation, Adviser said here while handing over prizes to winners of U-15 Badminton Championship organised by UT Sports Department.
Addressing the young sportspersons at the concluding ceremony, the Adviser said that role of a sportsperson comes with a lot of responsibility and grace as they are respected by everyone for their hard work, commitment and passion to succeed.
Adviser apprised that the mandate of the tournament was to ‘Catch them young’ – identification of sports talent at grass root level and its long-term structured development to elite level in tandem with draft sports policy of sports department on the anvil.
Director Sports intimated that augmented cash prize will be transferred directly to bank accounts of medal winners.
The 4-day tournament which had commenced on May 8 here at Sector 7 Sports facility was held in Singles category on knock-out basis and was divided into age brackets of 6 & below 9 years; 9 and below 11 years; besides 11 and below 13 years and 13 and below 15 years. The tournament was open to players who are either resident of Chandigarh or student of school situated in Chandigarh, a department’s spokesperson revealed.
Prominent amongst those present during the Ceremony included Director Sports, Sorabh Kumar Arora, JDS, Dr Sunil Ryat, DSO, Dharmender Mehta, Secretary, Chandigarh Badminton Association, Surinder Mahajan.
