A meeting to review the progress of works under Revitalization of Sector-17 was held today under the chairmanship of Adviser to the Administrator, Sh. Dharam Pal in the presence of Home Secretary, Finance Secretary, Commissioner MCC, Secretary Culture, Chief Engineer, Chief Architect & other officers of the Chandigarh Administration.
The Adviser has directed that all the projects as part of the revitalization of Sector-17 shall be completed in a time bound manner so that they are opened for the general public after its completion. These projects shall increase footfall in the city centre and make it more vibrant and inclusive.
The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh was directed to remove the encroachments and keep the area neat and clean on day to day basis by deploying dedicated staff. It was also decided to expedite the vacation of ground floor of 30 bays and 17 bays building in order to setup larger retail chain.
The chair also asked the officials to explore the possibility for allowing the existing food & beverages outlets to make provision for sitting of 30 persons in front of their establishments by Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.
The Engineering Department is directed to complete the works of floor fountain, amphitheatre, ambient lighting and projector mapping at the earliest. The possibility of setting up of regional branch of National Gallery of Modern Art at DC Office or Old Press Building in co-ordination with Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India will also be explored by the Department of Cultural Affairs.
All these works are being undertaken by the Chandigarh Administration in order to make Sector 17 more interactive for the general public so as to bring back glory of Sector 17 Plaza.
