PGIMER’s Advanced Cardiac Center beamed a live operation to Phoenix, USA*
Department of Cardiology, PGI, Chandigarh has again proved its high academic standards and interventional capabilities at an International Scientific forum. On its continuous efforts of imparting and sharing education and intervention skills with global leaders, the department transmitted a live operation from the Cardiac Centre, PGI to “Society of Coronary Angiography and Intervention (SCAI)” 2023 conference held at Phoenix, USA from the 18th-20th May 2023.
The annual SCAI scientific meeting is one of the most reputed meetingsin the field of intervention cardiology because of its high academic standards, sharing of best practices and procedural techniques, and teaching about the latest innovations. The meeting was attended by about 600 attendees and faculty members from throughout the world.
Speaking about thecase, which was beamed live from the Catheterization lab of the Advanced Cardiac Centre, PGI to the SCAI meeting at Phoenix, USA on 20th May, mid-night, Professor (Dr) Rajesh Vijayvergiya commented the patient was an elderly female who had a complex left main coronary artery disease with significant chest pain, which could not be controlled despite prescribing maximum medicines. She had coronary stenting done at an outside hospital about 10 years back, and this time the stents got blocked due to disease progression. She also had abdominal aorta obstruction, which was successfully treated at the Department of Cardiology, PGI around 2 and half years back by placing the stents in the aorta.
Regarding the present procedure, Dr Vijayvergiya commented that the case was treated by coronary angioplasty using advanced imaging technology including intravascular ultrasound, optical coherence tomography and fractional flow reserve. The case was extensively discussed & appreciated amongst the global experts, who were witnessing the live case at SCAI 2023 scientific session in Phoenix, USA on 20th May 2023.
Dr Vijayvergiya commented that PGI, Chandigarh is one of the most prominent tertiary care institutes in India, which is demonstrating live cardiology procedures of the highest academic values and interventional skills at various international and national scientific meetings. These efforts of PGI have helped the medical community across the world to learn the advancement in the interventional cardiology field.
