NABARD Punjab and Haryana Regional Offices, Chandigarh celebrates birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar
The 132nd Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar were held at Punjab Regional Office, Chandigarh on May 11, 2023 in the presence of Chief General Manager, Shri Raghunath B. and Chief General Manager of Haryana Regional Office Smt. Deepa Guha. In this meeting, Shri H.K. Sablania, General Manager, Dr. K.S. Maya Devi, General Manager, Shri R.P. Singh, General Manager, all senior officers and staff members of both the offices were present. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp and floral tributes to the portrait of Baba Saheb.
In the program, The Chief General Manager, Punjab Regional Office spoke about the multifaceted personality of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. He was a jurist, social reformer, educationist, economist and a political scientist as well. Some of the core values that underline his thoughts are rationalism, nationalism and anti-hero worship. He said that if we are able to internalise these values in ourselves that would be an appropriate tribute to Babasaheb.
Chief General Manager Haryana Regional Office said that Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar was awarded LL.D. by Columbia University and D.Lit. by Osmania University. He was awarded honorary degrees. In this way, Dr. Ambedkar became an inspiration for the global youth as he has 04 doctoral degrees associated with his name in addition to Master’s, Bar-at-Law. In the 65 years of his life, Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar made significant contributions to nation building by doing countless works in various fields like social, economic, political, educational, religious, historical, cultural, literary, industrial, constitutional etc.
Several members of staff spoke during the event highlighting the important role of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar in drafting the Indian Constitution, work done by Dr. Ambedkar on fundamental rights, work done to protect the interests of women and working class equally, right to education for all, etc. Babasaheb’s economic thinking had an impact in the establishment of the Finance Commission and the Reserve Bank of India. Babasaheb understood the problems of Indian agriculture and hidden unemployment. As an economist, ‘The Problem of the Rupee’ was his most famous book. He believed that if agriculture was treated at par with other economic enterprises, the gap between large and small holdings would be eliminated, bringing prosperity to the agricultural sector.
Sh. H. K. Sablania, GM highlighted Baba Saheb’s various achievements and contributions towards making of modern India. Sh. R. P. Singh, General Manager underscored the humanism, selflessness and idealism showcased by Babasaheb.
