Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Art of Living organization starts 08 days wellness programme for Model Jail inmates
The Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Art of Living organization started 08 days wellness programme for the inmates of Model Jail, Chandigarh. This programme has been designed specifically to aid substance users to come out of their addiction. Today i.e. 13.04.2023, Sh. Dharampal, Adviser to the Administrator, UT Chandigarh attended this programme as a chief guest. Sh. Praveer Ranjan, IPS-DGP, Chandigarh Police, Sh. Nitin Kumar Yadav-IAS, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration were also present on this occasion.
Sh. Deepak Purohit, IPS, IG Prisons, UT Chandigarh thanked the members of Art of Living Organization and Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh Administration for conducting the wellness programme for the substance users so that they may come out from the addiction. He further added that it has been observed that the inmates usually started taking drugs after release from the Jail which is injurious to their health. It has always been the endeavor of the jail administration that the prisoners leave the path of drugs and lead a normal life.
Arrangements for yoga and gym have also been made in the jail for the prisoners, so that they can maintain their physical as well as mental health. He further added that in order to promote the Millet food, the Jail Administration has started grinding Bajra, Ragi, Jo, Besan, Chana Atta and Spices which would be made available for the General Public at Nav Srijan Showroom, Sector-22 D, Chandigarh. Millet sweets have also been made available to the General Public at our outlets.
The inmates also share their experience about the above said wellness programme. They informed that they are taking benefit of this programme. The Adviser to the Administrator appreciated the efforts being undertaken by the Prison Administration for the reformation of the prisoners and to strengthen the Govt. of India initiative, “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”. He rendered his comments that “It was wonderful to attend drug addiction camp organized in Model Jail. This is one of the many initiatives that Jail Administration have taken to reform the inmates”.
