SANSKRIT DEPARTMENT, PANJAB UNIVERSITY CELEBRATED INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY IN WHICH DISCUSSION ON NINE LANGUAGES: MAITHILI, HIMACHALI, ODIA, AND OTHER LANGUAGES was held.

An event on the occasion of International Mother Language day was jointly organized by Dayanand Chair for Vedic Studies and Sanskrit department, Panjab University, today under the direction and guidance of the chairperson of the Sanskrit department and DUI, Professor Renu Vig, the event was held at the Sanskrit department, in which students of MA Sanskrit, research scholars and the teaching faculty took part. The department resonated with speeches, discussions and various presentations in and about Sanskrit, Maithili, Haryanvi, Himachali, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Odia, Hindi, and Urdu. Professor V. K. Alankar, academic in-charge of the department said, “our mother language is like our mother, who deserves all the respect from us, but so do the mother languages of others”. Emphasizing on the usage of one’s own mother language, Prof. Alankar reminded the audience that all the languages spoken at the event trace back their origin from Sanskrit, whom he called the mother language of all the other mother languages.
