Special Education Scheme for Punjab Govt. and Aided School Employees at JGND PSOU

Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU), Patiala in collaboration with State Council of Educational Research and Training, Punjab organised a session on special educational scheme for Government School teachers of Punjab. The special education scheme, launched by Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, JGND PSOU, in 2022, is in consonance with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This year, free education scheme for Punjab Govt./Aided School, has been extended to the non-teaching staff also. Under this scheme, 100% tuition fee waiver for postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma, and certificate programmes is available at JGND PSOU. The University has 103 Learner Support Centres (LSC) to facilitate learners on Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode.
Prof. Manjit Singh, Registrar, JGND PSOU; Dr. Shanker Chaudhary, Assistant Director (Academic Quality and Training), SCERT Punjab; Mr. Pardeep Chhabra, ASPD (SSA), DGSE Punjab; Dr. Karan Sukhija, Head of Admissions Cell, JGND PSOU addressed teachers from Govt. Schools in Punjab through medium of EDUSAT (Educational Satellite of India). Prof. Manjit Singh, Registrar, JGND PSOU said, “Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University has special provision of free education for Govt. School teachers with a thrust on skill development. Adapting to the rapidly changing demands of digital times, professionals must upskill themselves for better employability. This teacher training through state level implementation at JGND PSOU would give an impetus to NEP policy. The University proffers flexible courses to suit the requirements of employees and students who want to earn extra credits & pursue dual degree programmes as per the policy of UGC.” He added, “Training of teaching and non-teaching staff will ensure redefining of roles and responsibility and strengthening of educational services. The scheme envisages better learning outcomes and improvement in governance at all levels which will facilitate systemic change in the entire education system of the country.”
Dr. Karan Sukhija, Head, Admissions Cell, JGND PSOU, apprised the participants about courses available for teachers. He said, “Prof. Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, JGND PSOU, initiated the special education scheme to aid augmentation of skills of teachers. The University will extend the benefit to non-teaching staff also. The university provides education to employees and life-long learners at subsidized rates and also in a highly accessible mode.”
