BOTANY DEPARTMENT CONDEMNS THE
CASTE BASED DISCRIMINATION ACQUISITIONS BY A PH.D. CANDIDATE
In a joint Academic & Administrative Committee (JAAC) Meeting of the Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh, chaired by the Director, Research & Development Cell, Prof. Yojna Rawat, the enrollment of Ms. Renu Rani, a Ph.D. candidate, was approved with a condition that the administrative control of this candidate would stay with the second Supervisor (Dr. Ramandeep Kaur, Department cum National Centre for Human Genome Studies & Research, Panjab University, Chandigarh) after the superannuation of her primary supervisor (Prof. Neera Garg, Dept. of Botany, PU, Chandigarh). The inordinate delay in approval of the case was due to superannuation and relieving of her primary Supervisor from the active services of Panjab University, Chandigarh as well as the release of new UGC guidelines concerning allocation of Supervisors for Ph.D.
The JAAC took a strong exception to the aspersions cast on Panjab University, Chandigarh by Ms. Renu Rani on the basis of caste discrimination regarding her enrollment issue and strongly condemned the same.
