In continuation of its activities under the IMAGE programme, the Department-cum-Centre for Women’s Studies and Development in collaboration with the Consulate General of Canada in Chandigarh organized a signature campaign and formed at human chain in support of gender equality at the Student Centre here today. The campaign garnered over 150 signatures. The signatories included members of the Syndicate, Senate, Chairpersons of various Departments, faculty, non-teaching staff as well as research scholars and students.

One of the activities organized as a part of this campaign was marking of unsafe spaces on the Panjab University campus – both in Sector 14 and 25. The areas marked as most unsafe by students as well as faculty members were USOL Parking, and the road leading from there next to the sports ground as well as the road behind Aruna Ranjit Chandra Hall. This was followed by the entire road next to Girls Hostels 3 and 4 upto Ankur school and Student centre.. Likewise the Botanical Gardens and the area around these were also marked as unsafe.

The event concluded with a human chain in support of gender equality .
