Prof. Baljinder Singh awarded the prestigious Sir Homi J. Bhabha Oration

Prof. Baljinder Singh from the Department of Nuclear Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh was awarded the prestigious Sir Homi J. Bhabha oration for the year 2022 by the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India. Sir Homi J. Bhabha was an Indian legendary and visionary Nuclear Scientist who did pioneering PhD research from Cambridge, UK in 1932, and was instrumental in setting up TIFR and BARC in Mumbai. He was the President of the First UN congress on “ Atoms for Peace” that was held at Geneva, Switzerland in 1955. It was his vision and persuasion that the specialty of Nuclear Medicine was conceived across the world.

Prof. Baljinder Singh delivered this oration in the recently concluded 54th Annual Conference of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India at AIIMS, New Delhi from 8-11 December, 2022. Prof. Baljinder Singh shared his 30 years’ of academic and cutting edge research experience and emphasized on its impact on patient management at PGIMER, a premier medical institute of country and at institutions across the world.

This conference was attended by several eminent doctors and scientists from across the country and many stalwarts from USA, France, and Germany. Prof. Baljinder Singh conveyed his immense gratitude on the award of this prestigious oration. His presentation and exemplary academic journey of 30 years was highly appreciated and applauded by the audience.

Prof. Singh’s simplicity and passion for excellence is known to his peers in Nuclear Medicine and across other specialties, from India, USA, Europe, and the rest of Asia. He has served the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India in several leadership roles, especially as the President of the society and Dean of the Indian College of Nuclear Medicine. Prof. Singh served as senate member of Panjab University and as Chairman UK-India Network for safety and security of Radioactive materials in Healthcare. His contributions to the specialty are innumerable and the awarded oration is well deserved.
