The Engineering Department of the Chandigarh Administration has started the work of recarpeting of cycle tracks on Mission Mode basis to provide comfort ride to the cyclists of the tri-city. The cycle tracks/stretches which were damaged due to the recent rain/leakage points due to passing of underground services has been given top priority for recarpeting. Out of total 52 Kms., of damaged cycle tracks found during the detailed survey, the recarpeting work of 17 Kms. cycle tracks have been completed and remaining work of recarpeting of 35 Kms. cycle tracks shall likely to be completed within 1 month’s time with a cost of Rs. 3.80 Crore.
The Engineering Department has recently finished the detailed survey of the cycle tracks/stretches of the whole city to judge the existing condition of the cycle tracks and accordingly the recarpeting work was undertaken on the damaged cycle tracks found during the survey. The random inspection was carried out by the Chief Engineer, U.T. along with concerned Superintending Engineer & Executive Engineer and it has been noticed that the area falling under the jurisdiction of Sh. Trilochan Singh, J.E. is not up to the mark and he has failed to maintain the cycle tracks in good condition. Accordingly he was suspended for dereliction of the duty. Further show cause notice has also been issued to the concerned area Sub-divisional Engineer.
Further, the instructions have also been given to the Executive Engineer, Sub-divisional Engineer & Junior Engineer of the Department to periodically check and monitor the cycle tracks of the city, so that these cycle tracks can be kept in good condition to offer best riding quality to the cyclists in the city.
