National festival of Diwali (Falling on the 24th of October) was Celebrated by organising a colourful function by the Urdu department, Panjab University, Chandigarh here today.
Addressing the students and Faculty members,Dr. Ali Abbas described Diwali as a function of lights, happiness, prosperity and plenty.
He said, “Diwali, is not only a festival of India as most of western and Asian Countries have started celebrating Diwali with enthusiasm and gusto” he added.
Dr Ali Abbas further said,” Diwali blesses all without considerations of caste colour or creed at the national or international levels. It propagates the message co-existence, cooperation and oneness of humanity as a whole.
Paying rich tributes Prof.Rehana Parveen (Ret.) said that “ Diwali is symbol of hope for humankind.
Dr.Zulfiqar Ali & Dr. Zarreen Fatima who proposed the vote of thanks.
Songs ghazals and poems related to Diwali were recited. Candles and sweets were also distributed.
