PGIMER’s Physiotherapists celebrated ‘World Physiotherapy Day’

Physiotherapists of PGIMER celebrated ‘WORLD PHYSIOTHERAPY DAY’ on 8th September 2022 which is the foundation day of “World Confederation for Physical Therapists”.

The World Physical Therapy Day hails its importance from the fact that it is the date on which WCPT was founded in 1951 and is an opportunity for Physical Therapists from all over the world to raise awareness about the crucial contribution their profession makes in improving the quality of life, functionality and mobility of people. The day stands for the unity and solidarity of Physical Therapy community from 105 countries around the world. It is an Opportunity to recognize the work done for the patients and community by the Physical Therapists.

This year Physiotherapists at PGIMER organized one day hands on workshop on “Kinesio-taping” on 8th of September for Physiotherapy students and professionals. Upendra.N.Goswami, Superintendent Physiotherapist PGIMER was the resource person for the workshop. He has emphasized on the role of kinesio-taping in prevention and management of musculoskeletal and sports injuries. In all more than 50 Physiotherapy students and professionals participated in the workshop.

They are also going to organize the second program on 10th of September for the Chandigarh traffic police personnel specially for female staffs as they have to withstand many physical strains to perform their daily duties. The program will contain various lectures and demonstrations on various precautionary measures to avoid joint pain such as proper postural and ergonomic cares. The lectures will also include women health, mainly stressing on antenatal and postnatal fitness. The lectures will be taken by Dr. Pradip Sarkar, Superintendent Physiotherapist and Incharge Physiotherapy section, Lokesh Bhardwaj and Rati Sikka, Senior Physiotherapists PGIMER Chandigarh.
