The Adviser visits Census Gallery and Information Kiosk, Chandigarh
Shri Dharam Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator Chandigarh today visited Census Gallery and Information Kiosk Chandigarh set up by Dr. Abhishek Jain, IAS, Director Census Operations Punjab and Chandigarh, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. He was accompanied by team of Senior officers of Chandigarh administration. This Census Gallery and Information Kiosk is first of its kind project set up in India. It is a one-stop solution for all activities of Census organization i.e. Census, Map, CRS, SRS, DDU, DCHB, Library, Dissemination etc.
It has 3 main portions: Census Gallery, Census Information Kiosk and Digital Learning Centre. Highlights of the Census Gallery are Census through the annals of History, Processes and Methodologies of Census, Maps and Census, Census 2021 – First Digital Census of India, display of vintage census mapping instruments, important census documents & manuals, display of rare books and stamps on census and selfie with mascot of census. Highlights of the Census Information Kiosk are a touch screen has been set up for self-paced interaction on the Kiosk, containing information on – Census data, data visualization and graphics, census handbook, census quiz (for adults & children) Civil Registration System (CRS) data, Sample Registration System (SRS) data and Administrative Divisions. Highlights of the Digital Learning Centre are digital library of books of DCO Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana, Online training and learning facility and Census Data Dissemination Publications.
The Adviser also visited the Census GIS Lab set up in the Directorate of Census Operations Punjab and Chandigarh, set up by Ms. Varinder Kaur, Research Officer (Map) and Incharge of mapping operations for Punjab, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh). It is high-tech Lab which has been recently inaugurated by the Census Commissioner of India with the purpose of preparing State level administrative maps, thematic maps and map based on Digital Mapping. It is equipped with all types of latest GIS software for preparing digital maps. Census GIS Lab plays a very important role for pre-Census and post-Census mapping activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Dharam Pal said that this Census Gallery and Information Kiosk would be the one place for all needs of different stakeholders of Census Organization, helpful in exposure visits of state Government functionaries, IEC and awareness generation about census activities, helpful in workshops, training and capacity building, data dissemination of census, data visualization of census, spatial information through Mapping, ongoing activities of Census 2021, outreach through census publications, useful for Students, useful for Academic and Research Institutions.
Dr. Abhishek Jain, IAS, Director Census Operations showed the various Census theme-based portraits and also stated that various Census related officers including Deputy Commissioners, Charge officers, enumerators and supervisors. It would helpful for exposure visits of School and college students in understanding the dimensions of Census and mapping in this digital age.
The Adviser also planted a sapling in the office premises. Sh. Vijay Namdeorao Zade, IAS, Secretary Finance & Planning, Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh, Sh. Yashpal Garg, IAS, Secretary Health, Ms. Purva Garg, IAS, Secretary Education, Sh. K. S. Chahal, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health Services-cum-Chief Registrar (B&D) and more than a dozen senior officers of Chandigarh Administration were present along with Ms. Varinder Kaur, Research Officer (Map), Dr. Reji B, Assistant Director Census Operations and Sh. Sonam Chhering, Assistant Director Census Operations.
