Estate Officer holds meeting with representatives of City Associations regarding proposed amendment in the Capital of Punjab (Development & Regulations) Act, 1952.
The Chandigarh Administration issued a Public Notice on 07.04.2022 for inviting objections/suggestions of the general public regarding proposed amendments in the Capital of Punjab (Development & Regulations) Act, 1952. The timeline for giving objections/suggestions was further extended up to 06.05.2022 by the Chandigarh Administration. In this regard, various objections/suggestions have already been received from the general public as well as various associations of Chandigarh. In a bid to explain the proposed amendments, a meeting was held by the Estate Officer with representatives of City Associations. The Estate Officer explained the proposed amendments in the Capital of Punjab (Development & Regulations) Act, 1952 and highlighted that Rs. 2,00,000/- (Two lacs) and Rs. 8000/- (Eight Thousand) which have been kept as fine are the upper limits and these fines will be imposed depending upon the category of building and area under violation/misuse etc.
Capping in fine has been introduced for the 1st time – equivalent to 20 % of the value of the property on the request of various associations
He further highlighted that after these amendments are approved by the Parliament, the rules in this regard will be framed by the Chandigarh Administration in which the category of buildings and area under violation/misuse etc. will be kept in mind. These rules will be finalized after inviting claims/objections from general public.
