Chandigarh Congress today organized a peaceful dharna in front of the office of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation in Sector 17-E, Chandigarh to protest against steep increase in the water tariff by Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and back – breaking Inflation being faced by the country due to anti-people policies of Modi government.
The dharna was organized as a part of the schedule given by the All India Congress Committee to the local unit of the party to highlight failures of BJP led Union Government and Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Such programs and a Jan Jagran Abhian to make the people aware of unprecedented increase in taxes by Modi government aimed at looting the middle class and economically weaker sections of the country and transferring their savings and assets towards the rich corporate, shall be organized in future also.
The well attended dharna was led by Pawan Kumar Bansal, former Union Minister and Subhash Chawla, President Chandigarh Congress.
Speaking on the ocassion, Pawan Bansal stated that it has become a norm now that every time when BJP wins an election anywhere in the country, it celebrates it by increasing taxes on the people. This is indicative of their arrogance and dictatorial attitude. He further stated that during 2021 Chandigarh Municipal elections all the political parties in Chandigarh had promised not to Increase taxes in Chandigarh. Terming the steep increase in water tariff as a betrayal of the people of Chandigarh by the BJP, he also criticized Aam Admi party for being hand in glove with the BJP on this issue.
Speaking on the occasion Subhash Chawla stated that the Congress party will continue to raise the voice of the people of Chandigarh before the callous Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and Chandigarh Administration. A Jan Jagaran Campaign shall soon be launched to highlight the wasteful misgovernance and anti-people polices of BJP led Municipal Corporation and Modi government.
The Congress, activists also burnt the effigy of BJP government amid anti -BJP slogans in the end.

were Gurbax Rawat, Kamlesh, Deipa Dubey, Gurpreet Gapi, Jasbir Bunti, Dilawar, Ajay Sharma, Gurcharan and Youth Congress activists and office bearers of Chandigarh Pradesh and District Congress Committees.
