Chandigarh, 22nd March 2022: Malnourishment is a social evil, against which the Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration is working tirelessly through Poshan Pakhwada 2022.
Together with improving the Anganwadi services and delivery, Jan Andolan and community participation are essential components for effective implementation of POSHAN Abhiyaan. In pursuance of this objective, Rashtriya Poshan Pakhwada is being celebrated in convergence with all stakeholders during the month of September every year since 2018.
On the 2nd day of POSHAN Pakhwada 2022, a variety of activities were carried out by the Department around the city, to aware the public about the importance of Poshan and encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
A Special Week long programme is being organized for the children of orphanages to take ride on Hop on Hop off bus around the city in small batches of 30 children by the Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Chandigarh Administration in convergence with CITCO, Chandigarh.
Nodal Officer, POSHAN Abhiyaan UT Chandigarh flagged off the Hop on Hop off bus and children of Snehalya, Sector-15 raise their voice with the slogan “Sahi Poshan Desh Roshan”, “Mera Poshit Chandigarh”. All the children were orientated to adopt healthy lifestyle and say no to junk food.
Healthy Lunch Box competition was also organized, for malnourished children aiming at awareness and proper growth of children. A Doctor specializing in health and nutrition of children delivered a lecture during the event. This awareness event catered to the children and their families by guiding them towards a healthy diet for a healthy body and mind.
A Healthy Baby Show was organized at Maloya for babies aged 0 months to 1 years. The families were appreciated for their efforts in taking care of a nutrition appropriate and balanced diet. A lecture on diet of SAM Children at Behlana was also organised to impart the message at the grass-root level.
Various other events like Lecture on Balance Diet, Awareness on POSHAN, Poster competition, Low cost recipe demonstration, Identification of SAM Children, Lecture on prevention of Anaemia, Growth Monitoring drive, Importance of Poshan Vatika, Awareness about poshan ke panch sutra, Lecture on immunization, Importance of Healthy Food, Awareness about yoga were organised at all 450 AWCs.
Other departments also contributed in the mission, Awareness activity on poshtik Ahaar, Balanced Diet, Awareness activity on hand wash was organized. RBSK Medical Officers in coordination with School and Anganwadis organized an Awareness activity on prevention of Iron deficiency and anaemia for children and adolescents. Awareness activities on the importance of first 1000 days, awareness activity on prevention of Iron deficiency (Anaemia) for pregnant & lactating mothers By ANMs and LHVs in Gynae OPDs, Pediatric OPDs, NRC GMSH-16 and HWC’s was organised.
