Department of School Education( Samagra Shiksha) organizes State Level Function for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) and Out of School Children
Samagra Shiksha, Department of Education, Chandigarh in collaboration with ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India Ltd.) organized a State Level Function for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) and Out of School Children at Govt. Model Sr. Sec School, Sector 21, Chandigarh in which aids and appliances were distributed to 128 students enrolled in schools and under home based education. The event also showcased the exhibits prepared by the students during Skill Training conducted in the month of October and November covering 1019 CWSN on different skills like Pot making, Bag making, Wall hangings, Candle making, Embroidery, Paper bag making etc.
The function was presided over by Hon’ble Chairperson-cum-Education Secretary, Mr. Sarpreet Singh Gill (IAS) and State Project Director-cum-Director School Education Mrs. Palika Arora. They applauded the efforts of the teachers, trainers and the students. The students enthusiastically came forward to ensure that each one of them got the personal attention to present their products.
Mr Sarpreet Singh Gill (IAS) was overwhelmed to see the efforts and the confidence of the children. He also motivated the parents to ensure that the special ability of the students was honed by joining hands with the teachers to help them to be independent when they left the portals of the school. Mr. Shamsher who presented a self composed poem highlighting the challenges faced by these specially abled children was appreciated by the Chief Guest. He even asked him to write an anthem for these students which be composed and sung by the music teachers and played in every State Level Function of the Department. Further he also pointed out that we need to learn from the confidence and will power of these specially abled students to enjoy life and face the challenges converting them into opportunities.
Having a round of the school, he also appreciated the efforts put in by the Principal and her staff in GMSSS-21 to convert the open area outside the classroom as learning space for all that is essential part of learning but is not covered in books.
