NATIONAL VOTERS DAY – 2022
As part of the National Voters Day celebration, an online programme was held on 25th January 2022 for encouragement and enrolment of PwD Voters in UT Chandigarh.
Ms. Navjot Kaur, PCS, AERO 02-cum-Nodal Officer for Person with Disabilities (PwD) Voters presided over the online event for the PwD Voters in online mode due to COVID Pandemic. The main objective of the programme was to encourage youth and to enrol maximum numbers of PwD voters with the help NGOs, Block level Officers and other Stakeholders. The
During the event, the Nodal Officer (PwD) apprised that the Election Commission of India is celebrating 12th National Voters Day with the theme “Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative”. She further informed about the facilities provided by the Election Department to PwD Voters. She informed about the special initiative of enrolment of the new PwD voters at their doorstep by the designated Booth Level Officers. It was told that a new Android App has been launched by the Election Commission of India for the PwD Voters for making Election more accessible. The Nodal Officer shared during the online event that 3200 PwD Voters are already enrolled in U.T. Chandigarh. To increase the number of PwD Voters, she requested for support from all the participants including NGOs/stakeholders. She emphasized that the youth of Chandigarh must be encouraged towards this noble cause.
Mr. Jiten Kumar from Department of Election, explained the process of online/offline enrolment of voters, use of Android App and National Voters Service Portal (NVSP) of ECI. Sh. Nitesh Sharma (Sign Language Interpreter) interpreted the entire session in Indian Sign Language for hearing impaired and hard of hearing participants.
Sh. J. S. Jayara, State Icon for PwD Voters, expressed that in order to strengthen the democratic process everybody should exercise his/her vote in a befitting manner including the eligible PwD population. He called upon the eligible PwD population of Chandigarh to come forward to enrol for upcoming election.
Mr. Vinod Chadha, President, National Association of Blind encouraged the PwD Voters for enrolment and equal participation. He stated that the Constitution of India gives equal right of voting to all the citizens of India irrespective of their status or race.
Ms. Navjot Kaur, PCS is holding the charge of AERO-02. Supervisors, Master BLOs along with 59 BLOs of the area under the jurisdiction of AERO-02 have also attended this programme. During the programme, Mr. Sundeep Joon, Supervisor explained the roles and responsibilities of BLOs and to encourage general public, especially young voters to apply forms i.e. Form No. 6 for application of inclusion, Form No. 7 for deletion, Form No. 8 for correction of particulars and Form No. 8A for transposition from one place of residence to another within same constituency.
Programme ended with the launch of pledge made in Indian Sign Language by Sh. Nitesh Sharma, Sign Language Interpreter which will be uploaded on the Social Media Handles of Election Department. The event was attended by 100 participants. The orientation programme ended with pledge ceremony for National Voters Day 2022
