PGIMER celebrates ‘India crossing the one billion Covid vaccination mark’ with fervor & zeal

Director PGIMER lauds healthcare workers for their ‘compassion & commitment to duty’ in COVID-19 crisis

 

Chandigarh: 21 October: “As we celebrate ‘India crossing the one billion COVID vaccination mark’ today, we would like to attribute the successful accomplishment of this unprecedented milestone to all our healthcare workers, our frontline warriors, our scientists and vaccine manufacturers and our fellow citizens who bravely fought in the grave health emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

This was stated by Prof Jagat Ram, Director PGIMER, while addressing the PGIMER team at an impressive function marked to celebrate administering a billion vaccine doses as part of the national inoculation drive, here at Nehru Hospital Extension, PGIMER today.

 

Prof. Jagat Ram further stated “This celebration is a reiteration of our success in our resolute fight against COVID 19. We have been encouraging people for inoculation through aggressive information, education, communications campaigns and the outcome has been excellent with close to 100% of our healthcare workers getting vaccinated since we started the vaccination drive on January 16.”

“Our priority right now is to continue to explore options for children and adolescents for sure, but our thrust is to cover the adult population for which there is no dearth of vaccines anymore,” Prof. Jagat Ram emphasized.

Other dignitaries present during the celebrations included Prof. S.S.Pandav, Head Department of Ophthalmology, PGIMER & Chairman, Institute Vaccination Committee, Dr. Mahesh Devnani, DMS, Deptt. of Hospital Admin .and many senior members from faculty, nursing officers and other wings of administration.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. S.S. Pandav, stated, “We have bolstered the vaccination campaign in recent months, which has been instrumental in containing  the outbreak since sometime here in tricity. Still, there remains a worrying gap between those who have received one shot and those fully immunized. So, ramping up the second dose is an important priority.”

 

The celebrations concluded with the felicitation of the healthcare workers.
