“Amaltas Tree Birthday Celebration”
An Amaltas tree was planted on 27th July 2018 by Prof. M. C. Sidhu, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh. It was planted in E- Block, Sector 14 of the university, since then its birthday was celebrated every year on 27th July. Today again the birthday of this plant was celebrated by Prof. M. C. Sidhu along with other teachers, research scholars and students. The plant was decorated with balloons, streamers and birthday hats.
The scientific name of this plant is Cassia fistula. It is also called as golden shower tree. It is well known for its medicinal utility and beauty. It is grown as ornamental for their beautiful yellow flowers in gardens, parks and along the roadsides . The tree blooms fully during summer.
The purpose of celebration of birthday is to spread the awareness towards the importance, protection and conservation of trees. It is of utmost importance as the plants are the source of various needs of the human being. All above, the plants provide oxygen which is most important for human survival.
