Food is being provided to the needy during the lockdown from the kitchen called ‘Kitchen of Love’. The NGO is going to the remote villages of the valley, distributing the essential goods and kits of medicines and sanitizing the villages.
“The challenge was huge, but we were encouraged by that. And with this encouragement, we have extended all possible help to the inaccessible villages of Lahaul-Spiti in difficult times like Corona,”says Mr. Sushil Kumar, president of an NGO called Young Drukpa Association (YDA) based in Lahaul-Spiti.
Most of the Lahaul Valley is covered with snow, the temperature is below zero degree, and the weather is very uncertain where daily life is a sort of a challenge in itself. Even in such circumstances, the YDA NGO of Lahaul Spiti has been helping this tribal area immensely in the crisis of Corona since last year. According to Mr. Sushil Kumar, during the lockdown last year, the YDA had provided necessary help to the remote tribal villages of Bhujand, Salgah, Kuthal, Limtial, Buched, etc. in the tribal areas of Lahaul-Spiti. During this, he made the people of the area aware of Corona and also sanitized the villages. PPE kits were also given to the security personnel by the NGO. He said that the labourers trapped here during the lockdown were provided food and other necessary items by the YDA’s kitchen named ‘Kitchen of Love’.
Mr. Sushil informed that during the lockdown his NGO YDA distributed ration and essential medicines to the needy. He also provided necessary goods and three months ration to the labourers coming from outside. Along with this, his NGO also sanitized all the vehicles coming from outside.
The press secretary of YDA, Mr. Kunga said that after the opening of Atal Tunnel in the month of August-September, Corona cases started increasing in Lahaul Valley. Since then, the YDA has been sanitizing vehicles from outside, and kits made up of essential medicines, including vitamin C, zinc, vitamin D, steamers, oxidizers, masks and sanitizers have been delivered to every village and every home in the valley from the last one year.
Mr. Kunga said that even today the YDA workers are sanitizing the villages from where the cases of Corona cases are being reported and making people aware and distributing kits made of essential medicines. Mr. Sushil Kumar, President of YDA, says that recently with the help of Gram Panchayats, he visited the last village of Tindi in the valley and created Corona awareness amongst 250 families along with sanitizing the village. Vitamin C, Zinc, Vitamin D, Gargle kit, steamer, oxidizer, mask, sanitizer were also distributed.
Press Secretary Mr. Kunga explains that his NGO will continue to help the people as long as the Corona matters keep coming and will make them aware of the corona through all possible means.
