Demand to appoint Sikh as Chairman in State Minorities Commission: Dr. Kanwaljeet Kaur

Expressing deep concern over the elimination of the official status of Punjabi language from the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the Global Sikh Council has asked the Government of India to understand the immense sentiments of the Punjabis and maintain the development and spread of Punjabi in the region. In order to keep it immediately amending the Jammu and Kashmir Raj Bhasha Bill, Punjabi language along with other languages should be given official language status. In a joint statement today, the President of Global Sikh Council, Lady Singh Dr. Kanwaljit Kaur and Punjabi Cultural Council Chairman Harjeet Singh Garewal said that the Khalsa Raj had survived for 50 years under the leadership of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in Jammu and Kashmir.
