Chandigarh, june 5 2025:
The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, handed over appointment letters to 198 newly appointed Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) at a ceremony organized by the Education Department of the Chandigarh Administration. The event marked a significant milestone in the Administration’s commitment to transparent and merit-based recruitment, while also reflecting its resolve to elevate the city’s education sector to greater heights.
The Governor complimented the Chief Secretary for effectively leading the department in conducting a fully transparent and structured recruitment process for 993 posts across various teaching cadres. He appreciated the tireless efforts of the team that designed and implemented a systematic and fair selection procedure.
This move also adds to the existing strength of 2,197 Trained Graduate Teachers, further enhancing the quality of education in government schools across the city.
Appreciation certificates were also awarded to the dedicated team that worked tirelessly over the past year to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process.
In his address, Shri Kataria said, “Today’s occasion is not just about distributing appointment letters, but about ushering in a new chapter in the journey of nation-building. Education is not merely a means of employment—it is the most powerful tool to guide society in the right direction.”
He emphasized that teachers are the foundation of a strong society, shaping the thoughts, values, and future of coming generations. “The greatest Guru in life is the mother. A teacher holds the same place in life as a lamp in the darkness. The role of a Guru is not limited to preparing students for exams—it determines the direction of their entire lives,” he said.
Reflecting on India’s rich knowledge tradition, Shri Kataria added, “If India has ever been a world leader, it was purely on the strength of knowledge and education. Now is the time to revive that legacy and make Chandigarh number one in the field of education.”
Addressing the newly appointed teachers, Shri Kataria urged them to become role models. “Your work, conduct, and inspiration will shape the lives of your students. Your actions will empower you. A teacher is not just a source of knowledge, but a builder of a thoughtful, disciplined, and morally upright society.”
He further added, “Teachers must never stop learning. The day a teacher stops learning is the day they stop teaching. I encourage all of you to regularly participate in training programs and prepare your students for global competition with updated knowledge.”
Drawing from Indian mythology, the Governor highlighted the bond between classmates Sudama and Lord Krishna, emphasizing the values of love and humility imparted by their Guru. “The duty of a Guru is supreme. Teachers have the noble responsibility of guiding the nation towards becoming a ‘Vishwa Guru’ once again.”
The event was also graced by Chief Secretary of UT Chandigarh Shri Rajiv Verma, who was present as Guest of Honour. Mrs. Prerna Puri, Secretary Education, and Shri Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar, Director School Education, were also in attendance.
Currently, the Education Department of Chandigarh oversees 111 government schools, catering to approximately 1.5 lakh students. Of these, 62,021 students are enrolled at the secondary and senior secondary levels. The appointment of 198 teachers today is a significant step toward bridging this gap and reflects the Administration’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the education system.
