Livasa Hospitals Hosts Press Conference on Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery on the occasion of World Parkinson’s Day
7 million people in India are affected with the disease
Prevalence rates of Parkinson’s range from 15 to 43 per 100,000 population

Chandigarh, April 10, 2025: On the occasion of Parkinson’s Day 2025, Livasa Hospitals held a press conference at the Press Club, Sector 27, Chandigarh, to highlight Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery as a breakthrough treatment for Parkinson’s disease (PD). The event aimed to spread awareness about DBS as a transformative option for patients whose symptoms are no longer managed effectively with traditional medication.
Mr. Pawan Kumar, Director and CEO of Livasa Hospitals, remarked, “India is estimated to have a significant number of individuals living with Parkinson’s, with studies indicating around 7 million affected and prevalence rates ranging from 15 to 43 per 100,000 population. This highlights a pressing need for advanced treatment options in our healthcare system. At Livasa, we are committed to bridging the gap between cutting-edge medical technologies and the patients who need them most. Deep Brain Stimulation is not merely a surgical intervention; it represents a transformative opportunity for Parkinson’s patients to reclaim their lives and improve their quality of life. On this Parkinson’s Day, we aim to raise awareness about innovative treatment options and advocate for increased access to these life-changing therapies, bringing hope to countless families across the nation. As we advance in the field of neurology, it is crucial that we continue to invest in research and education to empower both patients and healthcare providers in managing this complex condition.”
Dr. Jaspreet Singh Randhawa, Consultant Neurosurgeon at Livasa Hospital, Mohali, spoke about the impact of DBS on patients’ lives. “DBS is a game-changer. For patients with advanced Parkinson’s, who suffer from severe tremors and motor complications despite medications, this procedure offers remarkable relief. It helps improve movement, reduce medication dependency, and most importantly, restores independence,” he shared.
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Neha Rai, Consultant Neurosurgeon from Hoshiarpur, stressed the importance of awareness and early intervention. “There is a significant lack of understanding about Parkinson’s and the options available beyond medications. DBS is a scientifically proven, globally accepted treatment that can significantly improve quality of life. Our objective is to educate not only patients, but also caregivers and general physicians,” she stated.
The event delved into how DBS works—through the implantation of electrodes in specific regions of the brain that deliver controlled electrical impulses to modulate abnormal nerve signals. The doctors highlighted global clinical outcomes, noting substantial improvements in mobility, reduction in tremors, and overall enhancement in daily functioning for eligible patients.
With expert commentary, compelling patient stories, and live interaction, the session successfully raised awareness about DBS and Livasa Hospitals’ leadership in adopting advanced neuro-care solutions. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session followed by refreshments.
