Melodic sitar recital by Dr. Renuka captivate the city audience in 294th baithak of the Kendra

 

The music lovers of city beautiful were treated to a amazing Sitar recital by Hisar based prominent Sitar exponent Dr. Renuka Gambhir on the occasion of the 294th Monthly Baithak Programme organized by Pracheen Kala Kendra here today. M.L. Koser Indoor Auditorium of the city reverberated in an ebb and flow between the melodious strings and the applause of the audience. Renuka kept the audience enthralled by the sheer and clean beauty of her skillful fingers racing the length of the Sitar.

 

Dr. Renuka Gambhir, a retired Associate Professor of Govt. P.G. College, Hisar, an ‘A’ Grade Artist of All India Radio, associated with the great Maestro legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan Sahab of “Imdadkhani Gharana She inherited her abilities from her father, the Late Prof. Pandit Om Prakash, former Head of the Department of Music (I) K.M.V. College, Jalandhar, who introduced her to the world of music at the tender age of nine. Thereafter, her musical talent was polished by her uncle and Guru, Dr. Pandit Virender Kumar and later by Pandit Harvinder Kumar Sharma, a renowned artist of India. She has won numerous prestigious medals and awards in contests held at both regional and national levels. As a student, she was awarded the Gold Medal in Harballabh Sangeet Sammellan continuously for seven years. She has done er Ph.D. degree from H.P. University, Shimla.

 

Renuka chose melodic Raga Saraswati , elaborate with quiet dignity of the methodical and reposeful alap followed by jod jhala which were a variant of the usual Sitar playing. Then she moved on to present some traditional gats in Vilambit and Madhya laya with her rhythmic touch, perfect strokes showing her sound training. Renuka’s sensitive yet controlled handling of the instrument was ample proof to her talent and dedication to music. She concluded her recital with a fast tempo based jhala amid thunderous applause. She was well accompanied by versatile table plyer Dr. Nitin Sharma on Tabla. Kendra’s Registrar Dr. Shobha Koser along with Secretary Sh. Sajal Koser and Veteran artist Meera Madan honored the artists.
