On 25th February 2024, Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will virtually dedicate to the nation 300 bedded S atellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur from Rajkot, Gujarat. The Hon’ble Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of 100 bedded Satellite Centre of PGIMER at Ferozpur , during this momentous occasion.

The establishment of these Satellite Centres of PGIMER in Sangrur and Ferozpur in the state of Punjab will help in correcting imbalances in the availability of comprehensive, affordable, quality and holistic tertiary care health services to the people of Punjab and adjoining states. These Satellite Centres will also reach out to the underserved population in the far flung areas through community outreach activities and by leveraging Digital health care infrastructure.

Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur Punjab , constructed with a project cost of Rs.449 Crores and sprawling across 25 acres of land, is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to cater to the healthcare needs of the populace. With a capacity of 300 beds, the Satellite Centre aims to alleviate the burden on the main PGI institution and enhance accessibility to quality medical care for patients.

Among its key features are 300 beds, five large and two small operation theatres, Intensive Care Units (ICU) wards, emergency services, In-Patient Department (IPD) services, telemedicine centre, and a host of other cutting-edge amenities leveraging the latest technologies. The foundation stone for this hospital was laid in 2013, and its construction was completed in two phases, demonstrating the Govt. of India’s commitment to bolstering healthcare infrastructure.

Since its soft launch, Satellite Centre of PGIMER in Sangrur Punjab has already made a significant impact, with over 3,61,127 patients availing themselves of outpatient department (OPD) services across various specialties as of December 2023 and additionally, a total of 269 major and minor surgeries successfully performed.

Highlighting the diagnostic capabilities of the Satellite Centre, it is noteworthy that 19,297 tests were conducted in the year 2023 alone, underscoring its pivotal role in providing comprehensive medical care. Furthermore, the radiology department has conducted 12,574 X-rays and ultrasounds, further accentuating the centre’s commitment to delivering holistic healthcare solutions.

Marking the fruition of continued endeavour of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India to provide top-notch and affordable healthcare services to the residents of North India, particularly Punjab, Hon’ble Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone of 100 bedded Satellite Centre of PGIMER at Ferozpur , Punjab during the event.

With a budget of 490.54 Crores, Satellite Centre of PGIMER at Ferozpur, Punjab is planned to house 100 indoor beds. This includes 30 intensive care and high dependency beds. It is planned to house 10 clinical speciality departments and five other supporting departments. It will also house minor and major operation theatres. The building will be constructed using latest techniques and is proposed to be platinum-rated green hospital.

In view of PGIMER’s prominence as a centre of excellence in the region, the patient load at the institute has been constantly rising in the past decades to the present levels. The emergency and routine services are over-burdened to cope with the patient load. Secondly, families have to travel long distances to avail services at PGIMER. Thus, it became imperative that newer outreach models of service to the public be explored and PGI Satellite Centres of Sangrur and Ferozpur in the state of Punjab are significant milestones and underscore the unwavering dedication of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India to ensuring the well-being of its citizens.
