DESIGNATED COURT SENTENCES THEN DY.SUPDT. OF POLICE, PUNJAB TO 6 YEARS OF RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE OF Rs 2 LAKH IN A CASE RELATED TO BRIBE OF Rs 1 LAKH
The Special Court for CBI Cases, Chandigarh has sentenced Smt. Raka Ghirra, then DSP, Mohali, Punjab Police to 6 (six) years of Rigorous Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.2 lakh in a CBI case of demand and acceptance of bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
CBI had registered a case on 22.07.2011 against Smt. Raka Ghirra, Dy.Supdt. of Police, Punjab Police, Mohali and Sh. Manmohan Singh, Reader to DSP on allegations of demanding bribe of Rs.2.00 lakh for helping the complainant in the FIRs registered against him. Subsequently, on negotiation, Smt. Raka Ghirra agreed to accept Rs.1.00 lakh as part payment of bribe.
CBI laid a trap on 24.07.2011 and accused Smt. Raka Ghirra was apprehended at Chandigarh while accepting bribe of Rs 1 lakh.
After completion of investigation, charge sheet was filed in the Court of Spl. Judge, CBI, Chandigarh against the accused Smt. Raka Ghirra on 23.04.2012. Shri Manmohan Singh turned approver.
After trial, the Court held the accused guilty and convicted her on 05.02.2024. The quantum of sentence was pronounced by the Court today (07.02.2024).
