360 volunteers donates the blood at 21st Blood donation camp organized by Security Department, PGI

On the eve of Republic Day as well as Netaji Subhash Chander Bose Jayanti, the Security Wing of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh organized 21st Blood Donation Camp at Zakir Hall, Near Bhargava Auditorium, PGI, Chandigarh on 24th January, 2024. The camp was inaugurated by worthy Prof. Vivek Lal, Director, PGIMER, Chandigarh and was conducted by a team of doctors from the Department of Blood Transfusion PGI, Chandigarh. Dr. Vipin Koushal, Medical Superintendent and other senior officials of PGIMER & Chief Engineer, U.T., Chandigarh also graced the occasion. Dr. Lal encouraged the enthusiastic volunteers who came forward to donate blood and appreciated the efforts of Security Department of the Institute for this social cause as well as a patriotic gesture remembering Great Netaji Subhash Chander Bose in such a way. The camp was conducted under the supervision of Sh. Gursharan Singh Korey, Chief Security Officer, PGI and the officers and staff of Security Wing. The camp was organized under the supervision of Prof. Rati Ram Sharma, HOD, Department of Transfusion Medicine. More than 360 volunteers from various fraternity i.e. Doctors, Nurses, Technicians, Students, Security Personnel and officials from CRPF & CISF participated in this camp. Due to the time constraint and other health reasons about 75-80 volunteers were denied donation. About 27 volunteers also pledged for organ donation during this camp. They were registered with Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization, PGIMER, Chandigarh. To boost the morale of donors, Officers of Security Wing, PGI and the senior police/CISF/CRPF were among the few donors who came forward first to donate blood on this occasion. The donors were offered refreshments. Gifts and mementos which was sponsored by Trident India Group and State Bank of India, Swaraj Engine Limited , Sahwney Mathi Wale etc. were presented to the donors as token of appreciation and recognition of their contribution to the society as a social cause. The senior officials of PGIMER met with the volunteers and appreciated the efforts of Security Department of the Institute for this social cause as well as a patriotic gesture remembering Great Netaji Subhash Chander Bose in such a way.
