Indian classical music performance by Malkit Singh Jandiala leaves the audience spell bound
Pracheen Kala Kendra, an organization dedicated to the promotion, preservation and dissemination of Indian Classical Art and Music in collaboration with Polo Hindustani Art Heritage & Cultural Trust has organized a musical evening of classical music when city based Noted Vocalist Malkit Singh Jandiala regaled the city audience with his performance.
Dr. Malkit Singh started singing at the tender age of eight when his mother would urge him to learn the ‘shabad’s of the Gurbani, Malkit Singh developed his latent talents for vocal music. Inspite of his busy schedule as a lawyer, all his spare time goes in rigorous ‘riyaaz’. Hindustani vocal became a vital part of his life as he devoted himself totally to this ‘sadhna’. He topped the university in M.A.-1 in 1990. He also learned under the tutelage of renowned vocalists like Dr. Bhupinder Sheetal, Prof. Yashpal and Dr. Arvind Datta of Panjab University, Chandigarh. Dr. Gurnam Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala. Dr. Malkit Singh also learnt finer intricacies of Hindustani Classical from the Vocal maestro Suresh Gopal Shree Khande of the Mevat Gharana.
Honble Mr. Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj , judge , Punjab and Haryana High Court graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Sardar Charan Singh Sapra , Former Trustee of Hazur Sahib was the Guest of Honor . Many dignitaries of Chandigarh like Sh. Rana Gurmeet Sodhi ( 5 times MLA and Former Minister), Sh. Davinder Pal Singh ( Senior Advocate), Sh. Devender Kadyan (Chairman, Mannat Group of Hotels), Sh. Sandeep Sahni (President, Chandigarh Club) and Mr. Harold Carver ( Founder Saint Stephen School) were also present as Special guests of the evening.
After traditional lamp lightening by Chief Guest and other guests , Dr. malkit Singh Jandiala took the centre stage and commenced the evening with Raag Jog in the rarely heard Vilambit bandish “ piyarwa ko bir maye”. Then he moved on to present a bandish in Madhya laya “ karam kartar ki jo mo pe aaj” followed by a Tarana. He concluded his recital with shabad in nirdharit raag shri with bols “ rang rata mera sahib “ amidst applause Eminent Tabla maestro Ustad Akram Khan added charm to the success of the event by his fine accompaniment on Tabla along with Sh. Sumit Mishra on Harmonium and Ustad Murad Ali on Sarangi.The recital was followed by a book release ceremony . The book titled “ Aadi Granth Shri Guru Granth Sahib ka Raag Prabandh , ek vishleshnatmak Adhyayan” based on Gurmat Sangeet written by Dr. Malkit Singh Jandiala was unveiled and released by Sardar Charan Singh Sapra, Former Trustee of Hazur Sahib.
Concluding part of the event was felicitation ceremony of eminent personalities of art world. Four eminent personalities were conferred with Lifetime achievement Award namely Bhai Gurmeet Singh Shant , Hajuri Ragi , Shri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, SNA Awardee Dr. Shobha Koser Senior Kathak Guru , Ex Dean and Chairperson , Punjab University Dr. Pankajmala Sharma and Great tabla Maestro of Punjab Gharana Pt. Kale Ram.
At the end of the program all the artists were honored and felicitated. On this occasion, Secretary of the Kendra Sajal Koser, Kathak Guru and Registrar of the Kendra Dr. Shobha Koser, Sh. Amardeep Singh Dahiya , Founder, Polo Hindustani Art Heritage & Cultural Trust were present to felicitate the artists.
Sh. Sajal Koser gave vote of thanks to the audience, media, distinguished guests and performing artists of the evening .
