Haryana Police Cracks Down on Illegal Liquor Smuggling, Seizing 627 Boxes and Rs 22 Lakh Worth of Booze
Chandigarh, January 16. Taking major action against illegal liquor smugglers, Haryana Police seized 627 boxes of illicit liquor worth about Rs 22 lakh, destined from Ludhiana to Gujarat. This success was achieved by the Bhiwani Police, which promptly acted based on secret information.
Director General of Police Shatrujeet Kapur stated that the police department’s team is actively working to apprehend Khurda, who is involved in selling illegal liquor in the state. During this operation, a zero-tolerance policy is being implemented. Kapur said that to curb the sale of illegal liquor, monitoring is being conducted at different levels, leading to the apprehension of culprits. He further said that senior officials in the state are overseeing the monitoring, ensuring prompt action and immediate capture of the accused. Additionally, the police department holds regular meetings with senior officers through video conferencing to review action taken reports, contributing meaningful efforts to crack down on those selling illegal liquor.
District Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Varun Singla said that, under the same operation conducted by Haryana Police, 627 boxes of illicit liquor were recovered from a container truck with a Rajasthan number in District Bhiwani. Its estimated value is around Rs 22 lakh. Acting on received information, Assistant Sub Inspector Dashrath, in-charge of Kharak Kala police post in Bhiwani district, set up a police blockade in his area. During the blockade, the police stopped a suspicious truck with a Rajasthan number plate, discovering a substantial quantity of English liquor boxes during the search. The truck driver did not possess any license or permit related to liquor, leading to the confiscation of the recovered goods. A case has been registered against the truck driver under the Excise Act and section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, and his interrogation is ongoing. The guilty driver has been remanded in custody for three days. Superintendent Singla affirmed that action against illegal liquor smugglers will continue in the future as well.
