During the festival season the demand for mithai is high and festivals are incomplete without sweets. There are chances of adulteration and low-quality food being produced and sold. Food adulteration has become a major cause of concern. The Food Safety Department, U.T. Chandigarh is doing regular raids and alert vigilance during the festival season.
A Joint team of Food Safety Officer, Food Safety Department, U.T. Chandigarh today i.e. 07-11-2023 inspected the area of Grain Market and Village Daria, seized 4 samples and issued 5 challans. About 50 kgs of Namkeen and sweets were destroyed which were found exposed to dust and flies and lying in unhygienic condition.
The Food safety & Standards department of Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh appeal to all the resident/ consumers to remain cautious and vigilant while purchasing milk, milk products, bakery products, beverages, dry fruits etc or any food article from market. They should ensure that the food items they purchase are to be purchased from the license shops which observe complete hygiene and use quality products, so that there would be no harm to their health. In case any of the consumers observe/ see anything abnormal, they report the matter to the department of Food Safety & Standards, Govt. Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh or at Emergency phone No. 102 or 0172-2752128 or they may raise concern on Food Safety and Standards Authority of India web portal https://foscos.fssai.gov.in/consumergrievance/.
