Sh. Banwarilal Purohit graced the 53rd Convocation 2023 at PEC, Chandigarh

Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), the first academic institution to come up in the capital city of Chandigarh in 1953, celebrated its 53rd Convocation with the Honourable Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Sh. Banwari Lal Purohit ji as the Chief Guest of the event. The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Purva Garg, Secretary Technical Education, Shri Rajinder Gupta, Chairman, Board of Governors, Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, Prof. Siby John, Deputy Director and Prof. Rajesh Bhatia, Dean Academics Affairs.*

The aura was filled with purity, peace and blessings as the students graduated with flying colors and with the passing of every year, PEC legacy continues to make an impact in India and Globally as a whole. The event started with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and Saraswati Vandana.

After the Inaugural ceremony, Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC formally welcomed and felicitated the Chief Guest, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit.

Sh. Purohit, in his Convocation Address said that PEC has a glorious legacy of more than 100 years. In the beginning he congratulated all the candidates, faculty and parents on this big day. He said, “from the serene surroundings of the Institution to the actual world, you shall encounter challenges which also bring out real possibilities.”
Further he said, Indians make a mark wherever they go. Even 60% of NASA’s scientists are Asians, with a significant number of Indians in it.

Further, addressing the graduating students, the Honorable Governor said that as they are entering in a world of unlimited opportunities and possibilities, Intelligence is equally important with education.
While sharing nuances of Mahatma Gandhi’s life, he told the students to always follow him and his teachings of Simple Living and High Thinking.

Sh. Banwarilal Purohit distributed Gold Medals to the students and also conferred Honoris Causa to Dr. Sreedhara Panicker Somanath, Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

A Convocation Souvenir was released by the Honourable Governor of Punjab, Shri Banwarilal Purohit Ji and presented to Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC.

Lastly, he once again congratulated the candidates and told them to always be humble. He said that we have to make India ‘VishwaGuru’ with Honesty and truthfulness.

The Director of Punjab Engineering College, Dr. Baldev Setia in his address mentioned that the 53rd Convocation comes in the 103rd year in the legacy of PEC. He talked about the Vision of PEC through a number of accomplishments and a variety of activities performed in the year 2022-23. He proudly mentioned the Institute’s role in constant research and innovation. While referring to various Degree Awardees, he said, “you should move out in the university of life, with confidence and sincerity. You are graduating at a time of immense and best of possibilities”.

He congratulated all of the degree awardees and wished them a fulfilling life and career ahead.

The event concluded with the Indian National Anthem. It is a genuine moment of great pride and glory, for the students, their parents and faculties of the Institute.

640 B.Tech degrees were awarded to the students of various branches of engineering. 96 M.Tech Degrees awarded to the PG students. 38 PhD degrees to be awarded in the Convocation 2023.

Out of 774 total degrees, 497 students were awarded the degree in person and 277 students were awarded the degree in absentia at the 53th Convocation 2023.
