at Old age Home, sec 15, Chandigarh
The World Sight Day is observed across the globe on the second Thursday of October every year to bring awareness and attention to blindness, vision impairment and eye health initiatives.
The Advanced Eye Centre at PGIMER, Chandigarh in association with Lions Club Central Chandigarh have been actively involved in conducting various activities to promote eye health and awareness. On World Sight Day, they organized a free screening camp at an Old Age home in Sector-15, Chandigarh. This initiative was aimed at providing eye care services to the elderly, who are often at a higher risk of developing eye conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma.
In addition to the screening camp, they also appointed Vision Ambassadors who were given a ‘Vision Ambassador’ identity card as well as badge by the Head of Department of Ophthalmology, Professor SS Pandav. These Ambassadors will act as eye donation counsellors, whose role will be to promote and motivate people for eye donation. This is a significant step towards addressing the shortage of corneas for transplantation and helping those suffering from corneal blindness.
These activities reflect the commitment of the Advanced Eye Centre and Lions Club Central Chandigarh towards improving eye health in the community and spreading awareness about the importance of regular eye check-ups and eye donations. They have also organized other events like Eye Donation awareness walk and lecture series for eye donation in schools, colleges, and public places for public awareness previously during the Eye donation Awareness Fortnight.
