*Maintaining law and order, prompt redressal of citizens’ complaint, women’s security, curbing drug menace and root out corruption are his top priorities- DGP Shatrujeet Kapur*

Chandigarh September 8: Haryana Director General of Police (DGP), Mr. Shatrujeet Kapur said that maintaining law and order in the State, prompt redressal of citizens’ complaints, women’s security, curbing drug menace and rooting out corruption are his top priorities.

Mr. Shatrujeet Kapur was interacting with the media persons at Faridabad today. Earlier, on reaching Faridabad, Police Commissioner, Rakesh Kumar Arya welcomed him with a bouquet. ADGP Law and Order, Mamta Singh was also present on this occasion.

He said that in order to instill a sense of security among women, “Safe City” project will soon be started in the State so that women feel completely safe at workplaces, educational institutions and in public transport. To ensure that the women and daughters did not have any doubt about their security while travelling at night, data of Ola, Uber and other auto drivers will be collected.  He said that women who travel late at night can register themselves on emergency helpline number 112. With this, police will be able to keep record of their mobile numbers and while traveling by any cab or auto, women can take a photo of the vehicle or driver from their registered mobile number and send it to 112. This would enable the police to trace the vehicle in which the woman is traveling and immediate assistance could be provided in case of any need. The auto drivers would have to display information including auto number, name of the auto driver and mobile number in front of the auto.  Petrol pump operators and jewelers would also be able to get themselves registered on 112.

Mr Shatrujeet Kapur said that the beat system would be further strengthened to curb crime. The gram prehari would keep information about every person living in his area which would help the police in identifying criminal elements. In addition, efforts would be intensified to tighten noose around those involved in drug peddling.

While stating that there would be a zero tolerance against corruption, he said that employees performing better would be recognized while those shrinking their responsibilities or those   involved in corrupt practices would be taken to task. On this occasion, he also urged the people that if any information regarding corruption come into their notice, they should immediately inform the toll free number 1800 180 2022 of the Anti-Corruption Bureau so that appropriate action could be taken.

On the issue of road safety, he said that a road safety audit would be conducted to ensure that roads are in better condition, while the drivers would be made more aware about getting their vehicles checked from time to time and travel keeping in mind the road safety standards. Besides, accident prone points would be identified and additional traffic police personnel would be deployed in congested areas.

Highlighting the priorities of Haryana Police, the DGP said that directions have been given to dispose of the complaints on priority basis and also to take feedback to ascertain satisfaction level of complainants. A feedback cell has been set up by the police and suggestions received for further improvement in the service delivery would be considered. This step would go a long way in improving the functioning of the police, he asserted.

Mr Kapur said that police units in each district are being specially trained to deal with any situation. Equipped with latest weapons and equipment, these police units are being trained in such a way that they are ready at all times to deal with any untoward incident. He said that after capacity building of the police force, our dependence on additional paramilitary police forces to deal with emergency situations would be significantly reduced. Apart from this, SWAT teams have also been formed to effectively deal with anti-social elements.
