Maintaining law and order situation and providing a safe and secure atmosphere to people especially women is among his top priorities- DGP

Chandigarh September 6: Haryana Director General of Police (DGP), Sh Shatrujeet Kapur said that maintaining law and order situation and providing a safe and secure atmosphere to people especially women in the State is among his top priorities. A project “Safe City” is soon going to be launched in the State to instill a sense of security among the women so that they feel completely safe at work places, educational institutions and in public transport. To begin with, this project will be started in Rohtak and Gurugram.

Mr Shatrujeet Kapur informed this, while addressing a press conference at Rohtak Range Office today. He said that after the success in two cities, the project ‘Safe City’ would be rolled out in the entire State.

He said that under the “Safe City” project, coordinated efforts would be made to ensure a safe public transport to the women so that they do not have any doubt about their safety while going to educational institutions and work places. The police would coordinate local cab unions, auto unions and public transporters for this purpose.

Sh Kapur emphasized that in order to provide a secure atmosphere to students, besides installing CCTV cameras outside the educational institutions, security guards would be deployed.  The frequency of Police patrolling at sensitive places would be increased. In cases of eve-teasing, immediate action would be taken after registering FIR, he asserted.

While outlining the priorities of Haryana Police, the DGP said for prompt redressal of public grievances, complainants received through any medium would be disposed of within a week time and feedback would also be taken to ascertain satisfaction level of the complainant. This move, he said, will go a long way in further improving the police functioning, he added.

On the law and order situation, Sh Kapur said that two police units are being trained in each district to deal with any law and order situation. These police units equipped with the latest weapons and instruments would be trained in such a way that they remain prepared all the time to deal with any untoward incident. He said that after the capacity building of the police force, our dependence on external forces to deal with emergency situations would reduce considerably. Moreover, the Police force and STF would be further strengthened to deal with criminal cases and all possible efforts would be made to increase the conviction rate in the courts.

The DGP said that relentless efforts are being made to curb cyber-crime by coordinating with banks and telecom companies. Information about cybercrime can be given on toll free number 1930. He said to motivate the police personnel to perform better, various welfare measures are being taken. To deal with drug menace, the Haryana Police has started a unique concept under which gram Prahari at the village level and ward Prahari at the ward level has been prepared. They identify drug addicts and drug peddlers in their respective areas and give information to the police. Besides, they also make people aware of drug addiction.
