*Haryana Police Breaks New Ground in Technological Integration: Highlights from the 53rd State Empowered Committee Meeting*
*Chandigarh September 5* – The future of criminal justice technology in Haryana took center stage at the 53rd State Empowered Committee meeting at the police headquarter, Panchkula.
DGP Shatrujeet Kapur presided over discussions revolving around the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS)-CCTNS, the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), and the forthcoming Measurement Collection Units (MCU).
In his briefing, Director of the State Crime Record Bureau, ADGP OP Singh, put the spotlight on Haryana’s noteworthy strides. The state proudly holds the pole position in the Pragati Dashboard, reflecting its success in the ICJS-CCTNS projects. Further bolstering its technological leadership, the Haryana Police is also recognized as a top performer on eSaral, the government’s citizen-centric service portal.
ADGP Singh delved deeper into the progressive steps taken, drawing attention to the readily accessible crime metrics on the CCTNS Dashboard. This invaluable resource, detailing crime rates, arrests, property seizures, and status of investigation offers seamless navigation with just a couple of clicks.
In a pivotal tech endeavor, the state is in the midst of transitioning the CCTNS database to the Meghdoot cloud platform. Expected to wrap up by the end of September, this move promises heightened efficiency and fortified data protection. As part of infrastructural upgrades, existing computer systems will also undergo replacement by November, entailing an investment surpassing Rs 6 crore.
Strengthening inter-departmental collaboration, the state ensures routine engagements with ICJS nodal officers across prisons, forensics, prosecution, and courts. In a bid to keep the police force abreast of these technological advancements, specialized training sessions are underway at the SCRB Lab in Panchkula.
The meeting also spotlighted the operational 31 MCUs under the CrPC(I) Act’s purview, with prospects of introducing an additional 33, subject to NCRB’s nod.
The prowess of NAFIS, operational since 1st January 2023, shone through with impressive figures. A whopping 33,867 fingerprint slips and 55 chance prints were logged. Signifying the system’s efficacy, 8,711 of these fingerprints successfully matched the NAFIS database, aiding in identifying 11 deceased individuals and associating 6 chance prints.
DGP Kapur profusely commended the State Crime Record Bureau’s efforts. Addressing the path forward, he delineated specific directives for HARTRON, NCRB, HPE, and SPs/CPs, all aimed at enhancing the synergy and efficiency of Haryana’s criminal justice tech apparatus.
In his parting note, DGP Kapur emphasized the Haryana Police’s relentless pursuit of tech-driven excellence, underscoring the department’s resolve to continually refine its operational dynamics.
