Anurag Thakur attends ‘Mera Desh Meri Maati’ programs in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Phagwara, requests people to contribute ‘mitti’ from each home

Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur was in Punjab today to be a part of Meri Maati, Mera Desh program at Phagwara and Jalandhar.
During the program, Shri Thakur called upon all the citizens to actively take part in Meri Maati Mera Desh program and remember the unsung heroes of Indian independence movement & soldiers. He said, “Modi ji has launched this national campaign to remember our freedom fighters as well as the soldiers who make supreme sacrifices in protecting our borders.”
Giving credit of uniting the countrymen with our soil to farmers and security forces, Shri Thakur said, “Our farmers fulfill the food needs of 140 crore Indians by producing crops. Our Soldiers leave no stone unturned in protecting our soil, our motherland. They even give supreme sacrifices for the nation. So it is our duty to remember them.”
The Union Minister was accompanied by the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Sh. Som Parkash. He along with Sh. Som Parkash went from house to house in the villages and collected soil in Amrit Kalash which would be used to develop Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav memorial & Amrit Vatika at Kartavya Path near India Gate in New Delhi.
Shri Thakur said Meri Maati Mera Desh is the concluding program of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign which was started in 2021. This is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.
During the programs Sh. Thakur also explained how the present central government is working for building a strong and secure nation and administred Prime Minister’s Panch Pran Pledge to the villagers.
Later, the Sh. Thakur attended an inter-univerisry ‘New India Debates’ at Lovely Professional University in Jalandhar as the Chief Guest where the debate was centred around the theme of ‘Yahi Samay Hai, Sahi Samay Hai’, an invocation by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi to inspire the youth to rise for nation building.
Rajya Sabha MP and Chancellor of the Lovely Professional University, Sh. Ashok Kumar Mittal was also present on the occasion.
On university program Shri Thakur said, “Had an amazing time at the New India Debates held at LPU University. I was greatly impressed by our youth, who again showed how well read & knowledgeable they are and how much they know about the development of the country & the world. It was special to be with such bright students, who are not only our future but also our present. I interacted with them and spoke at length about the transition of India in the last 9 years under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji. Be it the formalisation of the economy, the JAM trinity, welfare programmes, pulling people out of poverty, the impetus given to manufacturing, our standing at the global level, or our growing prowess in sports & science.”
During the program the minister said, “Today, India has become the bright spot of the world, and there are opportunities for every Indian in any field he/she may like. This extraordinary transformation was made possible through the unwavering commitment to the motto ‘Reform, Perform, Transform,’ as articulated by Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, and was followed in letter & spirit. I congratulate the participants, you all were extremely good. I wish you all the best for the future.”
